Amy’s Story
In 1989, Amy broke through the 112-year-old tradition of males only in the Ogden City Fire Department. In May 1997, her skills as a firefighter were rewarded when she earned the rank of Fire Captain and became the first female to hold that position.
In addition to being a trailblazer as a firefighter, Amy loved to train people. She was an Emergency Medical Technician instructor and a Community Emergency Response Team instructor. She was a member of the Fire Department Urban Search and Rescue Team and received numerous professional and civic awards.
Sadly, Amy’s life was cut short when, returning home from her shift at the department, her pickup truck was crushed by a falling tree, resulting in her death.
Those who knew Amy will remember the passion she had for learning and education. It is because of this passion, and in an effort to create a timeless memorial of Amy, that this fund was created.
Above all else, Amy was proud to be a firefighter.
